Parents of Ruyton
Our calendar kicked off with over 120 parents attending the
Tears and Cheers welcome morning tea. The atmosphere
was full of fun and laughter, mixed with some anxiety and
a little apprehension. Fortunately, we did not notice any
tears.
TheWelcome to New Parents’ Cocktail Party was a fabulous
evening, with new parents having the opportunity to meet
many members of the Ruyton Community. Mrs Marilyn
Rouhard from the Ruyton Development Office was quoted
as saying
‘
we would all still be there dancing if there had
been music!’
Our annual Ruyton Luncheon was held on Friday 23 March
at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club and featured guest speaker
Mr Red Symons. It was a sell out! Market stalls, raffle sales
and over 70 silent auction items, including the return of the
year level hampers, resulted in a record amount of well-over
$25,000 being raised to support the Ruyton Community
Scholarship.
Recognition and enormous thanks must go to the
organising committee led by Mrs Sue McLeish and Mrs
KarinaWoolrich.
Due to overwhelming demand we hosted two Mothers Day
Breakfasts in 2012. The beautiful pink and green theme set
the stage, with over 280 mothers and daughters attending
the celebrations.
In Term 2 we also officially celebrated the completion of the
Questers/ForART Mosaic in the Art Breezeway, an area that
now
celebrates creativity and beauty.
ForART held their second In the Dark fundraiser event
during May. In addition to the 86 artworks sold in a silent
auction, music and beautiful cheeses were made available
for the enjoyment of the discerning art lovers.
The POR again supported The Cancer Council Biggest
Morning Tea, this year raising $1326.15 at 12 morning teas
organised across all year levels, hosted mainly in Ruyton
family homes, with morning teas fit for the Queen!
The Fathers’ Day Breakfast moved to the Royce Theatre
this year to cater for one Big Breakfast.With an Olympics/
Sporting theme, it was another sell out and a lot of fun.
The Junior School Disco was held on the last Friday of Term
4.
As with last year, all girls enjoyed jumping and dancing in
the Royce Theatre.
The Second Hand Uniform Sale (SHUS) ran another
successful sale in November. SHUS is a very valued and
professionally-run opportunity for parents to sell, buy and
donate second hand uniforms for the benefit of the entire
Ruyton Community. The Second Hand Book Sale (SHBS) in
December was similarly successful and well-organised by
our willing and extremely able volunteers.
Questers this year managed to engage many Mums to
come and share the loft area of South House and produced
a huge array of goodies for our girls to purchase at the
Easter, Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day Stalls.
We continue to be inspired by the interest and involvement
of parents in the Ruyton Community. This year saw the
introduction of:
1.
The Ruyton Readers’ Forum. This focuses around a series
of free talks given by published authors to create an
intellectual dialectic within the School community.
2.
Ruyton Babysitting Register. This service provides a
register for the use by all Ruyton families of Ruyton girls
interested in babysitting.
3.
The Ruyton Golf Day. November 2012 saw the welcome
return of the Ruyton Fathers’ Golf Day which was a huge
success and enjoyed by all who participated.
Finally, it is difficult to find the words to adequately thank
the many Ruyton parents who have given up their time
to support the Ruyton School Community throughout
the year.We acknowledge all of you who assist in the
Courtyard Café, Drama and Music Department productions,
Questers stalls, Junior School Disco, Fundraising, including
The Ruyton Luncheon, ForART initiatives, all the sporting
clubs who assist with the girls Athletics, Rowing, Netball,
Gymnastics, Swimming and Equestrian activities, Uniform
and Second Hand Book Sales and reading in the Junior
School,Walking School Bus, and, of course, all the parents
who take on the role of Year Level Reps, and the POR
Committee. To all of you we send our heartfelt thanks.
Thanks also to those families who offered their homes for
Class functions or fundraising events, not forgetting the
dads who organize dads’ dinners and special adventures to
share with their daughters.
Behind this hive of activity is a support network - the
Ruyton Development Office! Our sincere thanks to these
staff for their continued support and guidance in all that
we do and to our Principal, Ms Linda Douglas for her time
and encouragement.
