reimagining our learning Learning Spaces It is 50 years since the Mayor of Kew and Miss Hilda Daniell, then headmistress of Ruyton, together with visiting dignitaries, participated in a service of dedication by School Chaplains for the Junior School Buildings. So it is very fitting that we are celebrating the opening of our new Junior School Building this year. And what a difference a year has made in terms of learning spaces for our Junior School girls. We have completed the first term and are thoroughly enjoying our new building. We are focused on empowering our girls by maximising their wellbeing. We do this by creating learning opportunities and engagements so the girls are able to raise their voices, take action and make a difference. The School values are embedded throughout the learning and teaching programmes to deepen civic and environmental engagement, and global citizenship. We encourage powerful learning through inquiry-based, and project- based learning. Here’s what the girls are saying: ‘I love how there isn’t a wall separating the two classes an d I also love the extra learning space for group work .’ 3 Yellow – Charlotte ‘I like that the rooms have lots of windows, giving us beautiful views of the garden outsi de.’ 3 Yellow – Sophie ‘I love that our artwork is hung up because I think that it is beautiful seeing other people’s wo rk.’ Prep Blue – Emina ‘I like the amphitheatre in our learning studio and how we can meet there and everyone fi ts!’ 6 Blue – Samantha ‘I like that it’s more communal, with lots of open space and you get to know the whole year level, not just you r own class.’ 6 Yellow – Lauren ‘I think it’s very practical and very well designed.
